14 months

This month has been a memorable one for us at the Mock household. I feel like our baby is turning into a true "tot". I previously blogged about his first steps earlier this month. He continues to "practice" a few times a day, but only a few steps at a time. He is so fast crawling around and he knows he can get places more quickly that way. He has mastered climbing the stairs (don't worry, we have gates) and pretty much knows to turn himself around to get down, but still gets a little scared. His new favorite trick, as I like to call them, is pointing. He started a week or so ago using his arms to point in the general direction of things that he wants. That has now developed into his index finger pointing at what he wants and along with that comes grunting and moaning. He is still obsessed with his Cozy Coupe car, probably his favorite toy at the moment.

He also is really into his water table and anything water for that matter

The usual updates include:
*Sleeping about 11.5 hours at night. We try and get him in bed by 8pm, but it will sometimes be 9:30 before he actually falls asleep. He just gets restless (never cries) and rolls around in his crib. He gets up about 8am
*Napping - twice a day about 1.5 hours in the morning and in the afternoon
*Has improved with the sippy cup, but only for juice and water. The only type of sippy cup that has seemed to work thus far doesn't allow milk to flow through too easily.
*Takes a morning and evening bottle (about 7-8oz each) and sometimes a snack bottle in the afternoon. Now that we have mastered a sippy cup during the day, we're going to work on using them for milk next
*Has 12 teeth (all 4 of his 12 month molars)
*Absolutely refuses to eat most meals in his high chair (suggestions anyone?!) We have tried everything short of letting him starve and go to bed hungry. He seems to have no time to eat and would rather play and take bites when he feels like it. This makes each meal anywhere from 30 min to 1.5 hours!
*He thinks any sort of electronic should be used as a phone. The IPhone, house phone, remote control, his video monitor. You name it, when he gets a hold of it, he puts it up to his ear. Here he is showing off his top teeth!

 The infamous surprised face
Working his Harry Potter magic to try and get the phone to ring
*We think he weighs anywhere from 24 to 25 lbs. right now; but he definitely growing taller by the day. His 18 month clothes hardly fit and he can now successfully get his entire hand around the door knob without too much effort
*Absolutely loves music. He full on dances now to just about any song, beat, clapping, snapping, etc. He adds a little bit to his dance moves every so often. Now accompanying the rocking bank and forth is the one hand in the air, raising the roof kind of routine
*He can actually follow certain commands. If we tell him to go get his juice, or the ball, or his puppy, he will go do it
*Loves to clap, play Pat-a-Cake, and watch me do the Itsy Bitsy Spider (he has started putting his fingers together and tries to mimic me when I sing it to him!)
*Current words include: MaMa, Bye-Bye, Boppy (we think for his puppy)
*Become a master of temper tantrums. Full out screaming, throwing his body to the floor in the most dramatic fashion, banging his hands on the floor - you get the picture

Here are his 14 month shots. You'll notice most of the pics are all in his same PJs. Wes' mom got us a fancy camera for our birthdays this summer. So I was practicing with it the other day! So excited to learn how to really use it!

Busy Weekend

We had a fun-filled weekend full of a wedding shower, a Sip-n-See, birthday dinner with friends, a 1st birthday party, and on top of all that - having our vanity built in the guest bathroom. Wes was off this past Friday, so we had a nice long 3 day weekend with our family. We went to lunch and ran errands all day Friday. We ran into Babies R Us to pick up a few things and every single time someone came over the intercom, this is the face Ryan would make.

It is his new favorite face to make. Anytime the phone rings, a text message or email comes through our cell phones, a doorbell, you get the drift, he makes the craziest face like he is just so surprised and wonders if everyone else just heard this same sound he did. It cracks us up. Here is it again from a few weeks ago.

Saturday morning, we had some men come over to build our vanity in the guest bath. Then Ryan and Wes headed over to his Uncle's house for his cousin's wedding shower. Ryan had a lot of fun getting in the water and splashing around in their pool. It was his first dip of the summer. He absolutely had a blast, so I see many more pool trips in our future. Below is another new face of his which is when he tucks his upper lip behind is lower lip - not sure why, but he crawls around like this all day long.

While they were in Jersey Village, I headed to Sugarland to meet my cousin, Allison's, sweet baby girl Izzy. I didn't bring my camera, but hopefully I will see her today and get a pic of her! That night, we all went to dinner at Texas Roadhouse with Jill and Turner and Kir and John for John's birthday. Ryan was such a trooper all day. We didn't get home until about 9 (which is super late for him). He rewarded us with sleeping in until about 9 the next morning! Sunday afternoon Ryan attended his first birthday party for my cousin's little boy Will. It was such an adorable party with an All American theme which included a cute hot dog warmer, popcorn machine, and lots of festive treats. He was very shy at first around all of the other kids, but by the end of the party he was hamming it up and even worked a little bit on his walking some.

We had such a fun weekend with all of our family and friends. This morning, I came over to my parents to do a little bit of work, and the first thing Ryan does is head for the pantry. This boy knows what he wants! Caught red-handed!

What a day!

Yesterday was a big day for Ryan! It started out like any other morning, I went to work, my mom came over to watch him, nothing too crazy. I finished with my first client earlier than normal, so I came home around lunch time to eat and play with Ryan a little before I went upstairs to work.  He was in rare form yesterday. It was a day of a lot of firsts. He was clapping on command, trying to figure out how to snap his fingers, getting on and off of his ride-on toy (the correct way) for the first time, and the funniest of them all was locating his tummy. Every time we would say, "Show us your tummy" he would lift up his shirt as high as he could and start giggling. He did this all day long. He has also been verrrry interested in looking down women's shirts recently. Not sure where this came from and why all of a sudden such interest, but he pulls back the shirt as far as he can and takes a nice, long look!

As I was finishing up playing with him and about to head upstairs, Ryan was playing with his Cozy Coupe and turned away and took about 2.5 steps! He was in shock. He did it right away again and then he had enough. After his nap, he did it quite a few more times and then again for Dad when he came home from work. He even got up to about 5 steps; he then he decided he didn't need one of us to prompt him and would take a few steps away from the couch on his own. Even though I know all kids accomplish walking at some point, it was such a proud moment for me. He's really growing up! I think he was so worn out from the activities of the day, he slept until 9:15 this morning! Once I get a good video, I will try and post it, but it looks like I am going to have my hands full from now on!

Cabo Wabo

Last Saturday we dropped off the lil guy at my parents house and came home to pack our bags in preparation for our 6 day stay in Cabo San Lucas. We left Sunday morning and by lunchtime, we were seriously in paradise. We stayed at Zoetry Casa del Mar which was a beautiful, lush resort. From the 24 hour in-room dining service, to the swim-up bars and pool on the beach, we couldn't have asked for a better get-a-way. Here was the view from our balcony.

 Our gorgeous room!
 View of the beach
We spent our first day poolside, enjoying fruity cocktails and just relaxing. I read some good books while I was gone (had been wanting to read The Help for a while now and finally was able too, such a great book and highly recommend it). That night, we ate dinner on the beach around the fire. It was perfect.

It was so nice being able to stay up as late as we wanted and not wake up in the morning to Ryan crying for us to come get him. Even though we still were about by 8 or 8:30 every morning. We spent another full day down by the beach and got a little burnt!

Tuesday, we headed into town and went on a half day sailing/snorkeling trip all around the Sea of Cortez and along the coast of the Pacific. We pretty much had the boat to ourselves and the weather was perfect.

We were able to sail around Lover's beach and the famous arch that supposedly only has sand on it every 4 years; so, this was pretty neat to be able to get so close to it.

That night we cam back into town and had a wonderful dinner at Edith's (which came to us highly recommended from quite a few people). We ate just about everything from filet, to lobster, shrimp, and sea bass. Basically we were pigs; such pigs, that I cracked my crown on my tooth and had to deal with that the rest of the trip!

You notice how my make-up clearly doesn't match my horrible sun burn?!?!

We relaxed all day Wednesday, starting off with breakfast outside and then were pretty much under our umbrella the entire day. The sun's rays are so strong there, Wes even got sunburned under the umbrella.
We headed back into town that night to have dinner by the beach at the Office, which was also owned by Edith's. The atmosphere was everything you would imagine it would/should be. There was live music, wonderful food and drinks, tiki torches, the works.

On our last full day, we headed to San Jose del Cabo to swim with the dolphins. Wes and I always joke about how we have such good luck on trips when it comes to booking excursions because what was supposed to be a group of 10 people, turned into just me and Wes with the trainer and 2 dolphins. It was such a neat experience learning how to play with them and see all of their tricks. We were able to do the "Push" which is where both dolphins swim up behind you and literally push you out of the water to where it looks like you are water skiing, completely upright. By Friday morning, we were ready to get home and see our boy. It was the perfect length of time to rejuvenate and just be with each other. When we went to pick Ryan up Friday night, he definitely was in shock at first to see us, but then became super clingy (and still is today). Every time I leave the room, he thinks I am going to leave him (makes me feel sooo bad!)
Here is Ryan and dad hanging out yesterday chowing down on some gold fish.
