Napa Getaway

Wes and I have really never celebrated our anniversary, and this year with him starting school and a new job, I thought we could definitely use a little trip to relax and take a break. So a few months ago, I booked us a 4 day trip to Napa to just enjoy wine country and each other's company. We went there about 6 years ago but only for about 2 days. We dropped Ryan off at my parents for the weekend (and even GiGi and Allie came over to help out one day).

After a 4 hour flight, trip to the car rental in the ghetto, and a long drive filled with traffic, we made it to Napa about ten hours later (but we didn't care!). Our first stop was to Domaine Carneros which was a gorgeous estate with delicious Pinot Noir. Friday was pretty rainy, but the rest of the weekend was sunny, cool, and crisp!

We checked into our Bed and Breakfast (if anyone is ever looking for a recommendation, definitely go to the Arbor Guesthouse - it was perfect!) in Napa afterward where they had nightly happy hours and even made their own wine! We enjoyed so many wonderful meals there and have names of about 10 places to go back and try next time! Saturday we visited Beaulieu Vineyard, Joseph Phelps (had amazing views of the countryside), Clos Pegase (really neat caves to tour), and Robert Mondavi which was probably our least favorite of the trip. We ate a picnic lunch at Clos Pegase.

 We ate another yummy Pizza dinner in town and the next morning got up to go to Bouchon Bakery in Yountville (which is the cutest little town), and then headed out for the day. This was a perfect day. We started at Jessup Cellars (recommended by our innkeepers) and this was probably our favorite wine. We ate lunch at a roadside, old grill called Mustards (still drinking wine!), and then headed over to Coppola's Rubicon Estate, which was another one of our favorites. Great wine, nice people, and beautiful grounds. We then visited Cakebread Cellars and based on another recommendation, headed up the hill to the Auberge de Soleil Hotel to have drinks and appetizers while the sunset. It was breathtaking. We finished off the day with more fine and food at a cute little Tapas restaurant.

We were determined to make the most of our last day even though we had a ton of travelling to do, so we hit up two wineries on Monday. We went to Goosecross, then ate one of the best burgers of my life at Rutherford Grill, and finally went to Rutherford Hill Winery.

It was the perfect amount of time away, very relaxing, and I think we enjoyed the wine so much more this time around since we knew a little more about it. Can't wait until we are able to go back and probably have a completely different experience since there are so many places to visit there :)
