We got up Friday morning before Thanksgiving break and kept the kids back from school to go ahead and get on the road and hopefully beat other traffic due to the holidays. The kids are usually pretty good with their movies, iPads and snacks.
This time, however, it didn't seem to keep them occupied for quite as long! I think we made it a solid hour or so before the questions started as to how far we had gone/still had to go.
We made great time and stopped for lunch at a yummy place in Lafayette called the Rusted Rooster. Ryan's grilled ham and cheese was as big as his head!
After lunch, they lost interest in their movies pretty quickly. I think Charlie fell asleep for about 20 min, but no one else slept the entire time. Thank goodness we made good time and made it by late afternoon to Houston.

Saturday, we celebrated MaMaw's 99th birthday with most of the Stacy side along with some of her close friends and caregivers. It was very special and she had the best time.

So excited to see their cousin, Harris. He became obsessed with Ryan during this trip and always wanted to know his whereabouts.
Bradley wanted in on some of the love as well, but Harris was still concerned with Ryan.

Family pics with just about everyone. We capped off the evening with none other than some good ol' Mexican food at Lupe's.
We went over to hang out with the Mock's for Thanksgiving the next day, and I got some one on one time with Henry.
Charlie came down with something super fast. In a matter of hours, he went from perfectly normal to a 104 degree fever. By late afternoon, we decided to run and get him checked at an urgent care. After nearly being denied due to it almost closing, Wes convinced them to let us in to see a doctor. Fortunately, it was just a virus, but unfortunately, it spread around the kids the remainder of the week.
We went to visit MiMi the next day. Charlie was still under the weather, so he was unable to join us. Always a good time catching up with the Meemster and listening to her stories.
GiGi took us down to Moody Gardens for some time away and we had the best time!
We headed out that morning, went and had a delicious lunch at Farley Girls and then headed to the hotel.

We suited up and headed over to the Iceland Exhibit.
Against Wes' advice when we were packing back in AL, I did not bring gloves for any of us, and let me just tell you, this place was INSANELY cold!!!

All of the sculptures were just incredible. You watch a video before entering explaining the process, the man power and hours it takes to create this masterpiece. I think at this point we ran out (lasted a whole 13 minutes!) downed some hot chocolate, and let the kids warm up by playing on the park nearby. I had Wes run up to grab all the extra socks we had to serve as makeshift gloves for our second go round. It definitely helped and extended our time in there by a good 5-7 minutes, haha!!

It was the extremities that suffered the most. My ears and fingertips were crazy cold!!

GiGi and the boys headed back to the room for some showers and R&R while Wes and I enjoyed some happy hour. They really live it up at hotels and can always find the robes!
We went and picked up some Whataburger since we don't get it much in AL and the boys devoured it while watching a movie.
Once it was dark enough we headed outside to walk through the Christmas lights.
The trail of lights was really neat with music playing and different themes across probably a 1-1.5 mile loop.
It was pretty chilly, so toward the end of the trail, we stopped for s'mores and some warmth from the fire!
Charlie found a "mascot" and actually wanted to stop and take a picture with him, which is very out of character for him.
The next morning, we got up, had some breakfast and headed home. That evening we went out with CoCo and Poppy for some bowling.

Finished up the afternoon with some outside time. The boys had a blast together riding around the cul-de-sac, paying cornhole and golf and anything else they could make up!
It was such a gorgeous evening!
Post Thanksgiving nap is a must!
The rest of the weekend was mostly uneventful. Friday afternoon, we headed to Sugar Land and hung out. The boys were spending the night there so Wes and I could go to dinner with my parents. We left and had a great dinner at Houston's and then we got the call. B was coming down with whatever Charlie had and wasn't doing too well. For the time being, we let it go and headed home and it was under control, but of course the best laid plans.....Charlie decided he didn't want to sleep. Wes headed over there about 10:30 so everyone could get some rest and spent the night over there with the boys. Needless to say, everyone was pretty tired Saturday and our plans pretty much were shot. We laid around and rested all day before heading back home on Sunday.
Luckily by Sunday, everyone was on the up and up and we had a pretty uneventful drive home other than some nasty rain once we hit Mississippi. Loving that bedhead!
It was a really fun trip and we got to spend a lot of quality time with our families which is always so nice. Lucky for us, we were coming back two short months later for Allie's wedding!
